40. My Horse

My horse she likes to stand and think
of owners past and tasty treats
of pastures green and stables warm
of fences jumped and sporting feats

Among the trees she stands and waits
for me to join her daily run
and whisper in her ear my love
and tell her my plans for future fun

My horse she likes to toss her head
and laughter flickers in her eyes
and wildness also, so beware
her sudden enigmatic sighs

39. Little Hedgehogs

Little hedgehogs move along
a leafy path without a care
for hedgehogs naturally assume
their spines will save them from a bear

So what a lovely life they lead
Sniffing out some snacks to eat
The wood to them enormous seems
They don't move far on their tiny feet

And when their day is at an end
in comfy tunnel warm and deep
They think about the worms they ate
until they fall into a deep sleep

38. Jaguar Nature

A jaguar's always hard to spot
Moving in shadows dark and deep
Waiting for prey to walk on by
Pouncing with one great leap

They glide along so silky smooth
Such power is easy to admire
From a safe distance if you're wise
Don't get too close to jaguar fire

Of jaguars now there are too few
We'd like to see a thousand more
Though nature makes them killers so
The end result will be much gore

37. Eagle Eyes

An eagle's eyes do not miss much
That moves for miles and miles around
So sparrows and the smallest shrew
Can't move when they hear eagle sound

From distances up high above
The eagle plans its sudden dive
And then at once it plummets down
To find a creature warm and alive

An eagle needs a lot of food
so must find morsels every day
yet nature makes a balance so
year in year out there is still prey

36. Penguin Slide

Penguins are designed to swim
In water they can twist and turn
And show off in a fancy way
Every trick that they can learn

On ice though they are less adept
Their bodies like a little ball
They flap their tiny wings and then
on every ice slope over fall

Coming down they do much better
On their backsides they can slide
Reaching a speed quite amazing
Back down into the raging tide

35. Kristal the Chameleon

Kristal the Chameleon came to tea
and wore a really pretty hat
but had to run back to her branch
when failing to hide from our cat

Now on her branch she hardly moves
just paces back and forth a jot
hoping for a passing bug or ant
to cook up dinner in her pot

She'd like to have a proper home
With comfy seats in colors bright
From where she can insult passing cats
While hidden from their keen eyesight

34. Flamingo March

Flamingoes keep a careful eye
On shoals of fish as they swim by
And when they see a minnow dash
They move their heads quick as a flash

And eat one fish or two or four
Which leaves them still desiring more
A bigger fish would be so nice
They'd eat that up in just a trice

Yet born with necks really too thin
They must eat many smaller things
Or worse still dredge the mud for bugs
So step by step they onwards trudge

33. Greedy Squirrels

Squirrels like to hide their nuts
For thieves lurk left and right
And if they see a nut about
They steal them in the night

Squirrels like to eat a lot
Which makes it very hard
To hide nuts really really well
And then stand by and guard

Bad squirrels simply scoff the lot
And just live for the day
In winter they get very thin
A price they choose to pay

32. Gecko Daze

A gecko does not get much fun
Just lies there in the midday sun
Waiting for a passing sign
That it will soon be time to dine

Of course the shadow up above
may not be just a passing dove
They fear an eagle or an owl
Diving down with piercing howl

But mostly waiting is the game
Which can feel a little tame
Yet geckos manage day by day
For lying there is just their way

31. Freddy the Rabbit

Freddy the rabbit
Had learned how to fly
His red scarf was magic
And lifted him high

He felt kind of special
Looking down from above
Thinking others adored him
And were sending their love

In fact they were worried
He was getting too proud
But being well brought up
They didn't say it out loud

30. Philosopher Frog

The Philosopher Frog
drifts here and there
thinking about things
few others would dare

The pond is quite peaceful
Nobody dare shout
So the thinking is constant
which can lead to doubt

A Philosopher Frog
is a wonderful thing
so everyone waits
as they would for a king

29. Dragon Fun

Dragons like to play with pets
And rabbits like the heat
You sometimes find them in the woods
With bunnies round their feet

A dragon is a playful thing
It likes to see you run
It does not plan to eat you though
Its only having fun

Dragons come in colours bright
red and blue and green
You rarely find a pink one though
And white is never seen

28. Party Owls

All owls like to party
A fact you should know
They look unexciting
Yet they really do go

They cannot play notes
so they just hum along
and flap with their wings
To each favorite song

An owl makes a good friend
Who likes really good chats
Though be terribly careful
Not to mix them with cats
